RDH to BS Program

Admission to the Registered Dental Hygienist to B.S. in Dental Hygiene Program

The online RDH-to-BS program allows an individual licensed as a dental hygienist to complete requirements for a bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene, regardless of where they may live. A total of 90 semester credit hours may be transferred into the program; up to 84 of those semester credit hours may be lower division. Transfer courses may include bachelor’s degree requirements for Texas and TWU as well as previous dental hygiene coursework.


Applicants must

  • Meet TWU entrance requirements and complete the TWU Application for Admission.
  • Be a graduate or current student of an associate’s degree or certificate dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
  • Hold licensure as a dental hygienist, or obtain Dental Hygiene Program approval for a current associate degree dental hygiene student.
  • Meet all RDH to BS requirements and complete the application for admission.
  • Send official transcripts from all colleges attended to

  • Have regular access to a computer, which meets standards compatible with TWU Distance Education, and high speed Internet access.

Upon acceptance into the program, an advisor will work with the individual to determine requisite coursework in accordance with the student’s interests and previous course credits.

Program Requirements

  • Complete the Texas general education core curriculum and TWU bachelor’s degree course requirements (listed elsewhere in this catalog)
  • Complete 36 semester credit hours of upper level courses, including 18 semester credit hours of requisite RDH to BS dental hygiene courses. Remaining upper division coursework may be selected from elective courses appropriate for personal professional goals and in certain core areas (Visual or Performing Arts, Humanities, Multicultural Women’s Studies, Global Perspectives, and Computer Science).
  • Complete remaining semester credit hours required for the degree. Dental hygiene coursework may be transferred for remaining credits. Note: Graduates from institutions with whom the TWU Dental Hygiene Program has articulation agreements are admitted and courses accepted per agreements.
