Texas Woman's University awards more than 10 million in scholarships annually which includes merit based, departmental, endowed, and need based scholarships.

  • Scholarship applicants must first apply for admission to Texas Woman's University (TWU) through Apply Texas.
  • Applicants must create a Pioneer Portal account before applying to the TWU Online Scholarship Application System .  Sign in using your pioneer portal login and password.
  • Priority deadline is March 15th for fall and spring semester. The online system will help you identify scholarships for which you are eligible to apply.
  • Complete the general application and submit to be auto-matched for scholarships.
  • After the general application is complete, press the "opportunities" button and review "recommended opportunities".  These are scholarships you must manually apply for in the system.  The TWU General Scholarship Committee is responsible for the selection of the new and continuing scholarship recipients
  • Scholarships will be discontinued any time a recipient withdraws from TWU or fails to meet requirements regarding academic progress, or attends less than full-time each term.
  • Scholarship offers are subject to timely acceptance in the scholarship system and your financial aid office, found in the portal account.

Eligibility

To be considered for scholarships, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Have all required admission applications and academic transcripts in the TWU Admission's Office or Graduate Admission's Office by the application deadline
  • Enroll full-time (minimum of 12 hours for undergraduate, 9 hours for graduate students and 6 hours for part-time graduate students or graduate assistants)

Eligibility Exception

  • You are graduating at the end of the semester of the award
  • Your degree program requires less than full-time enrollment (Example: Clinicals, student teaching, thesis, dissertation, or professional paper)
  • The scholarship description permits part-time enrollment

Award Notifications

  • All award notifications are sent to your TWU email account
  • The awards must be accepted online, then the funds will be transmitted to your Financial Aid account
  • Scholarship awards are made in the Fall and Spring semester only

First-Time-In-College Scholarships

Terry Foundation Scholarship

Terry Scholarships are available to selected entering first-time-in-college students annually. Specific eligibility requirements and the application deadlines can be found at http://www.twu.edu/terry-scholarships/default.asp

The Terry Foundation is a Houston-based organization founded to provide scholarships to outstanding Texas high school graduates and transfer students for attendance at public universities within the state. Established in 1986 by Houston philanthropists Howard and Nancy Terry, the Foundation has assisted hundreds of Terry Scholars in meeting the Founders’ goal of helping young people to help themselves.

This first-time-in-college scholarship provides up to full tuition, fees, room and board on campus, books and supplies. This scholarship is renewable for four years. Recipients must live on campus (at least the first year), maintaining full-time enrollment, maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, file the FASFA application each year, write to the Terry Foundation a self-evaluation letter each year and attend all functions sponsored by the Terry Foundation.

Chancellor’s Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship provides full tuition, mandatory fees (excluding room and board) and a book stipend for up to four years. Recipients are chosen from the new applicant pool. Recipients must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.25 in order to continue the award.

TWU Presidential Scholarship

The Presidential Scholarship is available to entering first-time-in-college students who are Valedictorian or Salutatorian of an accredited high school class. This scholarship pays full tuition and mandatory fees, excluding room, board and books, for up to four years. Recipients are selected from the scholarship applicant pool. Recipients must maintain a 3.25 GPA in order to continue the scholarship.

TWU Honors Scholarship

This scholarship provides $5,500 per academic year and is renewable for up to four years. Recipients are chosen from among the Honors Scholars Program applicant pool. (Visit the Honors Scholars Program page for more information).

First-Time-In-College Student Scholarship

Awards for this scholarship range from $1,200 to $3,000 per year and may be continued for up to four years. Entering first-time-in-college and transfer students with less than 13 semester credit hours (excluding dual semester credit hours) may apply. This scholarship is awarded to applicants based on the combination of high school grade point average, class rank, and SAT/ACT scores.

TWU Undergraduate Program

The TWU Scholars Program scholarships are awarded from endowed funds and/or gifts donated to the University. Recipients are selected from the scholarship applicant pool. Awards are based on high school grade point average, class rank, and SAT/ACT scores. An interview may be required.

Ann Stuart, PhD. and Ray R. Poliakoff Scholarship

The Ann Stuart, PhD. and Ray R. Poliakoff Scholarship was established by Dr. Ann Stuart, Chancellor and President of Texas Woman’s University, to provide scholarship funds for first time, full-time, undergraduate students who demonstrate high academic achievement and financial need. This scholarship is $3,000 per year and eligible recipients may continue on this scholarship for a maximum of four years.

Dobbs Leadership Scholars

The TWU Leadership Scholarship was created for entering students with a strong record of previous leadership in order to provide an opportunity to continue and expand leadership potential at TWU. Scholarships are awarded to first-time-in-college students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills during high school through activities such as community service, clubs, team competitions and activities. This scholarship provides $1500 per year. Eligible recipients may continue on scholarship for a maximum of four years

Forbes Scholars

The Donald and Judith Forbes Scholarship was established to provide a full tuition and fees scholarship for an outstanding new entering, first-time-in-college student with exceptional academic standing, record of leadership and involvement as well as financial needs. This scholarship has an estimated value of approximately $8,000 per year.  Eligible recipients may continue on scholarship for a maximum of four years.

Helen B. Miniter Scholars

Helen B. Miniter Scholarship was established by John J. Miniter, Ph.D. in honor of his beloved wife, Helen to provide scholarships for students with financial need with a preference being given to Native American Indians and African-Americans. This scholarship requires a 3.0 GPA and will provide 10,000 per year. Eligible recipients may continue on scholarship for a maximum of four years. 

Center for Women in Business Scholarship

Texas Woman's University's new center for women in business offers 20 new scholarships of up to $6,500 each for incoming first-year students from anywhere in the country who wish to open a business in Texas. 

Students applying for the scholarship must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, have a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.0, an ACT score of 24 or a SAT score of 1090 or higher.  Those with business ownership experience are strongly encouraged to apply. 

New International Undergraduate Student Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded to new entering undergraduate or graduate international students. Awards are $2,000 per year for up to four years for undergraduates, up to two years for master’s students or up to three years for doctoral students. Renewal eligibility is reviewed annually by the scholarship committees.

Entering Undergraduate Transfer Scholarships

Terry Transfer Scholarship

Terry Scholarships are available to new entering transfer students annually. Specific eligibility requirements and the application deadline can be found at http://www.twu.edu/terry-scholarships/default.asp

New Transfer Student Scholarship

Undergraduate students transferring to TWU from accredited community colleges or four-year universities with at least 13 semester credit hours may apply for this scholarship. Awards are at least $2,000 per year for up to three years or completion of the bachelor’s degree whichever is shorter. This scholarship is awarded based on a combination of cumulative grade point average and the number of semester credit hours transferred to TWU. Post-baccalaureate students are not eligible for this scholarship.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Undergraduate students transferring to TWU for the fall semester who are active members of Phi Theta Kappa in good standing may apply for this scholarship. Documentation of membership must be submitted to scholarships@twu.edu  Full time enrollment and a 3.5 grade point average. This award is for up to two years or completion of the bachelor’s degree whichever is shorter. Post-baccalaureate students are not eligible for this scholarship.

TWU Honors Touchstone Scholarship

This scholarship is designed for undergraduate students transferring to TWU,  enroll full-time with a 3.3 grade point average. Recipients must maintain progress toward completing Honors requirements with an average of 6 hours per year.  Awards are $1,000 per year for up to two years if all criteria continues to be met.

Other Scholarships for New and Returning Undergraduate Students

Mary Bryan and Tom C. Reitch Scholarship

These scholarships, in the amount of $1,500 per year are available to new entering undergraduate and graduate students and to current TWU students who have completed at least 24 semester credit hours. Awards are made based on a combination of academic achievement and financial need. Recipients must reapply each year in order to continue the scholarship.

TWU General Academic Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded based on a combination of academic achievement and financial need. Full-time enrollment is required. Recipients are selected from the pool of applicants for financial aid.

Departmental Scholarships

Hundreds of endowed and donor gifted scholarships are awarded each year. Most academic departments and alumni groups have scholarship funds available. Department awards are selected from applications made through the TWU online scholarship system prior to the March 15 deadline for fall semester or November 15 for spring semester. Awards are predominately made based on academic achievement and major.
