The programs of the College of Professional Education design ways to place knowledge in service to society. Four components comprise the College: the Department of Family Sciences , the Department of Reading , the Department of Teacher Education , and the School of Library and Information Studies ,.

Programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Arts, Master of Science, Master of Education, Master of Library Science, Master of Arts in Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees are available through the College. Teacher Education programs in the College are accredited by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). Master's programs in Library and Information Studies are accredited by the American Library Association. The Counseling and Development program is accredited by The Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The Master of Science in Family Therapy is accredited by The Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE).

Undergraduate studies in teacher education are offered in an Interdisciplinary Studies major, with academic specializations in bilingual or English as a second language (ESL), special education and English, language arts and reading. Other undergraduate degrees are available in child development, family studies, and family and consumer sciences.

The College of Professional Education offers graduate degrees in library science, child development, family studies, family therapy, counseling and development, reading, special education, educational administration, teaching, learning and curriculum, and early childhood education.

The College of Professional Education also offers programs preparatory to teacher certification and certification for school librarians, principals, superintendents, counselors, reading specialists, master reading teachers, and diagnosticians as authorized by the State Board for Educator Certification.
