Bachelor of Arts in Theatre (Emphasis in Acting and Directing)

The B.A. in Theatre with an emphasis in Acting/Directing prepares graduates to function creatively and skillfully in a variety of theatre professions with a focus on the skills needed for a career in creating performances both for the theatre and other related arts and entertainment fields. The emphasis also prepares students for further graduate work in their chosen field should they choose.

Marketable Skills

Defined by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's 60x30 Strategic Plan as, "Those skills valued by employers that can be applied in a variety of work settings, including interpersonal, cognitive, and applied skills areas. These skills can be either primary or complementary to a major and are acquired by students through education, including curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities."

  1. Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, subordinates, and people outside of the organization using clear spoken communication and active listening. 
  2. Monitor and organize processes, materials, and surroundings including the ability to review information relevant to a goal and to develop and prioritize the steps needed to achieve a goal. 
  3. Work directly and effectively with the public using skills such as oral expression, written expression, and improvisatory problem-solving. 
  4. Collaborate in a team-driven atmosphere by establishing and fostering personal relationships and developing constructive and cooperative working relationships in a time-sensitive environment in both face-to-face and digital communication environments.

Theatre Major Rehearsal and Production Requirement

Theatre majors must enroll in THEA 1312 or THEA 2312 or THEA 3312 or THEA 4412 each semester of full-time enrollment. Each of these courses corresponds to the student's class status. For example, a First Year student should enroll in THEA 1312, a Sophomore student should enroll in THEA 2312, and so on.  Transfer students should enroll in THEA 3312 or THEA 4412 after consulting with a program advisor.
