As firms relocate to North Texas to take advantage of its business-friendly climate, demand for skilled financial professionals continues to grow. Unlike years ago, accounting today is about far more than just numbers. Now accountants bring unique strategic financial, analytical, technical, and critical thinking skills and knowledge to the management team. They find work homes of every kind and at every level in for-profit and not-for-profit entities, including public accounting, corporations, governments, charitable organizations, film and TV, hospitals, colleges & universities, and many others.

TWU accounting professors bring real-world accounting experience and teaching expertise that allows them to convey theories and principles in a way you can understand. Learn from excellent professionals, and benefit from many opportunities to network with professional businesspersons in Texas and beyond. Find internships that qualify for class credit and lead to permanent employment.

By completing the B.B.A. Accounting, you are well on your way toward fulfilling the requirements to sit for the CPA exam, the CMA Exam, the CIA Exam, the CFP Exam, and many other highly valued designations for financial professionals. More information for the CPA Exam follows.

Notes for students interested in becoming a Licensed Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.)

Students must complete at least a bachelor’s degree and 120 total semester credit hours with specific courses completed to be eligible to sit for the CPA exam.  They must complete a total of 150 semester hours and work experience to become a CPA. The B.B.A. in Accounting, combined with the Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA), provides all courses needed for CPA eligibility under current requirements. The College of Business makes every effort to ensure that all TWU accounting and non-accounting business classes are accepted by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy for CPA Exam credit. The State Board can and does change course requirements and course acceptance as the Board deems appropriate. In addition, TWU may offer elective courses that do not meet the requirements set forth by the Board. Students are subject to all Board changes until the student receives an official response letter from the State Board indicating that the student has fulfilled all requirements. Students interested in becoming qualified to sit for the CPA Exam must work with the State Board to determine their eligibility and may seek help from accounting faculty members.

Classes are located on our Denton campus in face-to-face and online formats.
