The Master Music with an emphasis in Music Pedagogy is for vocalists, pianists, and instrumentalists who are interested in refining their knowledge and skills for effective studio teaching in public or private settings. The curriculum focuses on teaching strategies, literature, and improving performance skills.
Defined by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's 60x30 Strategic Plan as, "Those skills valued by employers that can be applied in a variety of work settings, including interpersonal, cognitive, and applied skills areas. These skills can be either primary or complementary to a major and are acquired by students through education, including curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities."

Total Semester Credit Hours Required
36 semester credit hours (SCH).
A grade of A or B for courses to be counted toward the degree.
An oral examination will include a comprehensive review of the major area of emphasis and the culminating project. The result of the exam will be reported as:
- not pass, or
- deferral (exam may only be repeated once).
A lecture-recital will satisfy the recital requirement. Voice pedagogy students take a placement exam in sight-reading and keyboard proficiency and are expected to be proficient in German, French, and Italian diction.
