Bachelor of Science in Health Studies (Community Health)

Health Studies majors who select the Community Health area of study can pursue employment within community health settings, such as non-profit organizations, public health departments, corporate worksite wellness programs, clinics, and hospitals. Graduates are eligible to take the CHES® Exam to become Certified Health Education Specialists.

Marketable Skills

Defined by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's 60x30 Strategic Plan as, "Those skills valued by employers that can be applied in a variety of work settings, including interpersonal, cognitive, and applied skills areas. These skills can be either primary or complementary to a major and are acquired by students through education, including curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities."

  2. Effectively evaluate a health education/promotion program.
  3. Effectively write a health education-related grant.
  4. Effectively communicate with a range of audiences in a health education/promotion setting.
  5. Effectively demonstrate ethical and professional responsibilities in a health education/promotion setting.
