Graduates of the dual-degree program will earn two degrees: the Master of Library Science and the Master of Science in Health Studies. The degree programs are available entirely online.
The Master of Library Science (M.L.S.) degree prepares professionals for leadership roles as information specialists in hospitals, medical centers, medical schools, nursing colleges, and other public and private agencies. The Master of Science in Health Studies prepares students for leadership positions in the disciplines of health education and health promotion.
Defined by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's 60x30 Strategic Plan as, "Those skills valued by employers that can be applied in a variety of work settings, including interpersonal, cognitive, and applied skills areas. These skills can be either primary or complementary to a major and are acquired by students through education, including curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities."
For the Master of Library Science
- Apply professional ethics and competencies in acquiring, organizing, delivering, and preserving information and knowledge.
- Demonstrate evidence-based practice in professional decision-making.
- Deliver community-embedded services to promote equity and social justice, and meet the needs of diverse constituencies.
- Apply technologies to meet information needs in a variety of contexts.
- Disseminate professional knowledge through venues such as teaching, research, publication, and service activities.
- Plan for and engage in continuous, career-long professional development.
For the M.S. in Health Studies
- Communicate and advocate for the improvement of health.
- Assess health needs and recommend appropriate solutions.

Successful completion of new HS student online orientation during the first year in the program.
Health Studies: A written comprehensive core project on the core coursework is required.
Library Science: The SLIS Final Exam comprises submission of the Final Exam Portfolio as a requirement in the LS 5843 Practicum course.
