Bachelor of Science in Public Health

The Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) degree provides initial training for students interested in the broad and diverse field of public health. The BSPH will have a general public health focus that exposes students to areas such as health promotion, epidemiology, environmental health, and health informatics. Students pursuing this degree will be prepared to pursue entry-level employment in the public and private sector, or to pursue more specialized training in the Master of Public Health (MPH) and similar programs.

Marketable Skills

Defined by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's 60x30 Strategic Plan as, "Those skills valued by employers that can be applied in a variety of work settings, including interpersonal, cognitive, and applied skills areas. These skills can be either primary or complementary to a major and are acquired by students through education, including curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities."

  1. Integrate knowledge and skills from the profession and science of public health to improve regional and global health.
  2. Explain how behavioral, biological, environmental, genetic, and psychological factors affect a population's health.
  3. Apply evidence-based approaches and methods to improve health in Texas.
