Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Bilingual Speech-Language Pathology

This 12 semester credit hour certificate program prepares graduate students to provide assessment and treatment to dual language learners (English/Spanish focus). The program includes online academic coursework and a supervised clinical practicum opportunity and is available to students concurrently enrolled in the M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology program. 

Marketable Skills

Defined by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's 60x30 Strategic Plan as, "Those skills valued by employers that can be applied in a variety of work settings, including interpersonal, cognitive, and applied skills areas. These skills can be either primary or complementary to a major and are acquired by students through education, including curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities."

Degree Requirements

Total Semester Credit Hours Required

12 semester credit hours (SCH).

Interested students are required to apply and be accepted to the graduate program in speech-language pathology and pass a Spanish-language proficiency test in all four domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The required coursework includes 9 SCH of online academic classes and 3 SCH of a clinical practicum experience with at least 75 clock hours assessing and treating dual language learners under the supervision of an ASHA certified SLP who is bilingual. Students must earn grades of A or B in all classes and successfully pass a case study examination.
